The Japan Karate Association
of San Francisco Bay
It's not karate for kids.
We practice Shotokan karate-do in Berkeley, California. It's a classical martial art for adults and teenagers. Traditional karate is immensely rewarding. You learn precision, speed, power, self-defense skills, and most of all the spirit of Japanese budo. We belong to the Japan Karate Association, the oldest formal school of karate, recognized by Japan's Ministry of Education. If you are a complete beginner or have past experience, you're welcome to join us. You must be twelve years of age or older, because karate requires control and discipline. Most of all, karate-do is a path for life, whatever your age. Beginners start at the beginning of the calendar month. Click Train with Us for details. Who are we? The JKA of SF Bay is a member of Shotokan Karate-Do International, a branch of the international JKA, led by Takahashi Shu Sensei, 7th Dan, in Brooklyn. The instructor is T.J. Stiles, 5th Dan. He has forty-four years of experience, including twenty years of training in the dojo of the legendary Mori Masataka Sensei, 9th Dan. He is licensed as an instructor, tournament judge, and rank examiner by JKA headquarters in Japan. |
